orchids at the AGNSW

I was showing a client today some pics as we decided on some flower and foliage combinations for an event we're planning together.
These beautiful orchids were done for a function we did at the Art Gallery of NSW.

Such a vibrant mixture!

Our collaboration with Woollahra Council

We are very proud and excited to announce our involvement in the Woollahra Council annual Garden Week, in September.
I am honoured to have been asked to do a presentation.

I have had to write a bio for inclusion in the advertising material...
This is what i came up with...

Lisa mattock is the co-owner and creative director of the award winning florist and homewares store Dragonfly Floral Design, and the recently opened Dragonfly Outdoor, which specialises in garden accoutrements.

She has been a florist for 7 years, avid collector and admirer of homewares, stationary and "found" goodies since she was a little girl.
She has many fond memories of being in the garden mashing petals together to make "perfume", with a pocket full of interesting pebbles and feathers.
Or was often to be found organising her crayola collection to coordinate with her mum's jars full of saved buttons, beads and sequins.

Now I am working on the content for the presentation.
I'm thinking of doing some techniques and ideas that will mean the participants get a chance to do some hands on floristry. Hints and tips that they can take away and use at home.

Other presenters for the weeks festivities include chef Matt Moran, gardening author Colleen Morris and landscape designer Steve Batley.

It promises to be a week of good fun!!
Stay tuned for details on booking tickets...

bridal bouquet trends

I've been busy with consultations and quotations in the last few weeks for the spring wedding season.

I LOVE an organised bride! Someone who plans ahead and is really particular about the vision they have.
As with all fashion, weddings flowers see different trends.
One particular trend that is at the fore at the moment is the "small bouquet". Often made with just type of flower, they are very elegant and stylish.

Charlie's table...

We are the exclusive stockist for these beautiful, bespoke tables made by celebrity landscape designer, Charlie Albone.
Charlie is best known for his work on the Lifestyle channels, Selling Houses Australia.
These tables are made to measure from river pebbles, recycled rail sleepers and a sandstone slab.
He built us one out in our courtyard area of the shop, lucky us!
Come on in and drool!

Overflowing with blooms!

Our beautiful flower stand today...
Couldn't resist a quick pic!

Grab and Go!

We have a lot of customers that run in and out of the shop in such a hurry... They often have kids and hubby in the car, waiting out the front.

I love that they know they can race in and grab "something". Be it flowers which we make up into posies already in little vases, or as one customer said to me this morning "easy peasy" gifts.
Just like these muslin wrapped soaps on ceramic dishes that we've wrapped in cello.

Instore displays...

I absolutely adore the "buying" part of owning Dragonfly.
It is part of my job to decide on all the gifts and homewares we stock here at both our stores.
Often these goodies are ordered several months in advance. So when they arrive its wonderfully good fun to redesign our display areas in the shop.
I'm really into displays using colour blocking at the moment, as you can see in this image I took yesterday of some current stock we have.

Bonny blue hyacinths

Wedding number two this week was all about masses of blue hyacinth...
The fragrance was extraordinary!
The tables were all clothed in a matching blue.
VERY beautiful!!

Beautiful Babies Breath...

In the world of floristry, as with everything else, things go in and out of fashion...
In recent years gypsophilia, or babies breath, as its more commonly known, has definately been in the "unpopular" catagory.
We did the most beautiful wedding yesterday at Gunners Barracks, Mosman.
I used all babies breath in enormous domed bunches, in large fishbowl vases.
T

he effect was amazing!!

SALE TIME!

We have two sales a year here at Dragonfly, January and June.

I save up all those end of line bits and pieces throughout the year, stow them in the garage, and then we pile everything onto the table in the centre of the shop.
It's so much fun to watch as our customers forage through everything to find "treasures"...
There's not anybody who doesn't love a 40% off bargain!!!!

Come on in and have a fossick around, sale finishes end of next week.
